We hate to break it to you, but that everyday lip balm that you're *addicted to* is probably irritating and drying your lips out rather than moisturizing and hydrating them. And we can all agree that there's nothing worse than crusty, flakey lips, right?!
Here's how to check whether your lip balm is secretly making your chapped, dry lips worse (instead of better).
Check the ingredients on your lip balm label.
Do us a favor: go grab your favorite chapstick (yes, right now!) and check the ingredients label. If it contains any of the following ingredients, it's not good for your lippies, my friend:
These ingredients actually dry your lips out and cause them to crack. It's a trick, you see - to get you to use more of their product more often! These ingredients are big no-no's in our natural skincare orbit.
What ingredients should I look for in a lip balm?
Lip balms that will moisturize your lips for long period of time ar typically those made with just a few simple ingredients. Some of our favorite lip balm ingredients include:
- Shea Butter
- Unrefined Coconut Oil
- Candelilla Wax (or Beeswax)
- Essential Oil
It's okay to feel sad that your favorite lip balm isn't healthy for your lips. Here's something that should cheer you up, though: you have some amazing organic options to replace your old lip balms with!
