Tal's Winter Facial Routine for Dry Skin

Posted by Natalya King on

Struggling with dry winter skin? You’re not alone! The combination of cold air outside, indoor heating, and low humidity can leave skin feeling tight, flaky, and irritated. Without the right care, it can be tough to maintain that soft, healthy glow through the colder months. That’s why our founder, Tal, follows a deeply nourishing skincare routine that keeps her skin feeling hydrated, smooth, and radiant, no matter how harsh the weather gets. If your skin is craving some extra care this season, you’ll love these simple yet effective steps.

What Causes Dry Skin?

Before we dive into Tal’s go-to routine, let’s take a closer look at what’s really happening when skin becomes dry.

When your skin feels rough, tight, or flaky, it’s a sign that its protective barrier isn’t functioning as well as it should. This outermost layer, known as the skin barrier, is responsible for keeping hydration in and external irritants out. However, during the winter months, harsh winds, cold temperatures, and indoor heating can disrupt this balance, leading to increased water loss and a weakened barrier.

Other factors that contribute to dry skin include:

  • Hot showers and baths: While they feel amazing on a cold day, prolonged exposure to hot water can strip away the skin’s natural oils.

  • Harsh cleansers: Some face washes contain ingredients that can be too drying, further disrupting the skin barrier.

  • Not enough hydration: Drinking water helps support overall skin health, but without the right topical hydration, your skin may still feel dry.

  • Aging and hormones: As we age, our skin naturally produces less oil, making it more prone to dryness.

Drink Your Water, Y’all! Hydration is the First Step to Happy Skin

If your skin is feeling dry, tight, or dull, putting on all the creams and oils in the world won’t help if you’re not hydrating from the inside out. Water plays a huge role in keeping skin soft, smooth, and resilient. Without enough of it, skin can lose that natural glow and become more easily irritated.

So, how much water should you actually be drinking? A simple way to figure it out is to drink half your body weight in ounces of water each day.

Here’s how to calculate it:
Take your weight (in pounds) and divide it by two. That number is the minimum ounces of water you should aim for daily.

Example:
If you weigh 160 pounds → divide by 2 = 80 ounces of water per day

Of course, this can vary depending on your age, lifestyle, climate, and activity level, but it’s a great starting point. And if plain water isn’t your thing, mix it up with herbal teas, infused waters, or even nourishing broths to keep hydration levels up.

Tal’s 6-Step Winter Skincare Routine for Dry Skin

If your skin is feeling dry, dull, or in need of extra love this season, we’ve got you! Tal’s skincare routine is designed to hydrate, nourish, balance, and protect while helping to soothe the appearance of fine lines and discoloration. The best way to support your skin’s natural glow and elasticity is to start early, and this routine makes it easy to give your skin the care it deserves.

Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of Tal’s winter skincare routine using our full Anti-Aging 5-Step Face System system, plus one final step of applying our calendula salve to lock in hydration.

Step 1: Cleanse with the Anti-Aging Face Cleanser

A good skincare routine starts with cleansing, but not with harsh, stripping cleansers. This oil cleanser formula is made with castor oil, extra-virgin olive oil infused with calendula, chamomile, and lavender, plus powerful botanicals like frankincense and myrrh to soothe and purify the skin.

How to Use:
Gently massage the oil cleanser into your skin in a circular motion for about 30 seconds to a minute. Add a touch of water. Rinse clean.

Step 2: Brighten with the Rose Glow Foam

This gentle foaming cleanser is infused with rose hydrosol, jojoba oil, turmeric, and licorice root to brighten, soften, and soothe the skin. It’s perfect for adding an extra dose of hydration and radiance while keeping the skin feeling fresh.

How to Use:
Apply 1-2 pumps of Rose Glow Foam Cleanser to wet face and lather for 30 seconds. Rinse face with warm water and follow with toner, moisturizer, and SPF. Safe for AM & PM use.

Step 3: Detox & Rejuvenate with the Blue Moon Mask

A weekly masking session is a must in the winter months. This antioxidant-rich mask features white kaolin clay, ashwagandha, blueberry, spirulina, and turmeric to gently detox, soften, and brighten the skin.

How to Use:
Sprinkle a small amount of Blue Moon into the palm of your hand. Add just enough water to form a thick paste, adding only a few drops at a time. Gently massage onto your face, and rinse off with warm water. Pat face dry and follow up with toner. Use 1-2 times a week.

Step 4: Tone with the Anti-Aging Face Toner

Toning is a game-changer for keeping skin balanced and prepped for the next steps. This botanical-infused toner features hibiscus, rose, and witch hazel to soothe and tighten, while lavender, frankincense, and myrrh offer added hydration and skin-loving benefits.

How to Use:
Use your Anti-Aging Face Toner after washing your face with oil cleanser or Rose Glow Foam, and after your weekly Blue Moon Mask, and before using serum or moisturizer. Close your eyes and spritz your face, or apply with a cotton ball.

Step 5: Hydrate & Protect with the Anti-Aging Face Serum

This nourishing face serum is loaded with plant-based oils that help lock in hydration, smooth fine lines, and promote a youthful glow. Olive oil and grapeseed oil deeply condition the skin, while lavender, tea tree, and helichrysum work to balance and support skin health.

How to Use:
Apply a few drops of the Anti-Aging Face Serum on your face morning and evening. It replaces moisturizing creams and SPF can be applied on top of it. Just give the serum a few minutes to sink in.

While each of the products in steps 1-5 can be purchased separately, you can bundle them together in our Anti-Aging 5-Step Face System for a complete, easy-to-follow routine. Get everything you need to hydrate, nourish, and protect your skin, all in one set!

Step 6: Lock It All In with Calendula Salve

The final step for extra-dry skin is to top it all off with our calendula salve. This balm is perfect for locking in hydration, soothing sensitive skin, and creating a protective barrier against dry winter air.

How to Use:
Gently massage a dime-sized amount onto your face at the end of your skincare routine to lock in moisture.

This 6-step routine is perfect for winter skincare and beyond, keeping skin hydrated, soft, and radiant through every season.
