Okay, let’s talk about yoni steaming. If you’re thinking “Wait… a what steam?” you’re not alone. A yoni steam (also called a vaginal steam) is exactly what it sounds like: a gentle, herbal steam for your most sacred parts. It’s an old-school practice that’s been used in different cultures for centuries, and honestly, once you try it, it just makes sense.
It’s warm, relaxing, and surprisingly soothing - plus it has some major health benefits.* I think of it as a little reset button physically, emotionally, and energetically. In this post, I’ll tell you how to do a simple DIY yoni steam at home and share one of my go-to blends to get you started.

Yoni Steam Benefits
Yoni steaming is all about taking a moment to slow down and give your body a little extra love. And the benefits? Whew, they’re real.
A lot of folks steam to help with things like:
-
PMS symptoms (think cramps, bloating, mood swings, exhaustion)*
-
Irregular or missing periods*
-
Heavy flow or that old, dark blood that shows up at the beginning or end of your cycle*
-
Vaginal dryness, low libido, or feeling disconnected from your sensual self*
-
Postpartum healing, especially for toning the womb and soothing vaginal or C-section recovery*
-
Fibroids, cysts, prolapse, and endometriosis support*
-
Keeping your pH and hormones in check*
-
Recurring yeast infections, BV, or lingering odor*
-
Menopause-related dryness or pain during intimacy*
-
Hemorrhoid support (yes, steaming can help with that, too)*
-
And just overall feeling like your womb and body need a gentle reset
It’s not a fix-all, but it is a beautiful, nourishing way to support your body, especially when paired with rest, hydration, and a little intention.

How to Yoni Steam (2 Ways)
Setting up a yoni steam is easy, and there are multiple ways to do it depending on what you have at home.
Option 1: With a Yoni Steaming Seat or Box
Using a Yoni Steaming Seat/Box is always a great choice. These are designed to help support your yoni health, especially during the postpartum season. The warmth and herbs help tone and tighten the uterus and vulva after birth, and the setup makes it easy to steam without straining or feeling uncomfortable.*
Yoni steaming has been practiced in cultures around the world for generations. Our boxes honor that tradition while offering a safe, sturdy, and beautiful way to bring the practice into your home.
Plus, our next yoni steaming boxes fold down, making them extra easy to store!
Option 2: DIY Home Setup
If you don’t have a special yoni steaming box, you can make it work with things you already have at home.
Some people like to use a big heat-safe bowl and place it inside the toilet (just lift the seat), while others squat over a pot on the floor or set the bowl under a slatted chair. You can also cut a hole in an old chair. Feel free to get creative with whatever feels the most comfy and secure. You don’t need anything fancy for it to work.
You’ll also want a towel, blanket, robe, or a long dress or skirt to wrap around your waist and trap the steam. And if you’re setting the vibe, go ahead and light a candle, put on a playlist, dim the lights, whatever helps you chill out.

DIY Yoni Steam Recipe
There are so many beautiful plants you can use in a yoni steam, depending on what kind of support you're looking for. This is one of my go-to blends because it’s gentle, soothing, and works well for most folks. You can always change it up based on your needs, but it’s a great place to start if you’re new to this practice.
Ingredients:
-
2 tablespoons dried calendula (Calendula officinalis) flower
-
2 tablespoons dried rose (Rosa spp.) petals
-
2 tablespoons dried chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) flower
Directions:
-
Pour 4-6 cups of boiled water into a large, heat-safe bowl & add the herbs above.
-
Before steaming, hold your hand above the steam to make sure it is at a safe temperature.
-
Undress the lower half of your body & squat, sit or kneel above your herbal steam, making sure to keep a safe distance between the pot and your vulva.
-
Use a towel or blanket to cover the lower half of your body & enjoy until the steam subsides.
-
When finished, lay quietly wrapped in a blanket and relax deeply.
-
Enjoy this self-care ritual 1-3 times per month.
Disclaimer:
Refrain from yoni steaming if you are pregnant, think you are pregnant, menstruating, immediately postpartum, have an IUD or another contraceptive device, and/or have a vaginal infection or open wound. Remove any genital piercings before steaming. If irritation occurs, discontinue use.
